Logos Hope

MV Logos Hope is back in the Queen City of the South. Last weekend, my friends and I went to visit the largest floating bookstore last Saturday.

Here's the schedule:

May 6, 2015 - May 28, 2015

Tuesday to Saturday: 10 am to 9:30 pm

Sunday: 9:30 pm

Monday: Closed

Before you can enter, you need to pay Php 20 but for children below 13 years old and senior citizens 60 years old and above, they are free of entrance.

An international crew will welcome you upon your arrival on the ship. You can listen to a crew while he is explaining the story behind these ships. You can also watch a video presentation.

After that, you can move on to the bookstore where a variety of books will welcome you. I'm sure you will have a hard time picking out which book you will buy because there are a lot of good books to read there. There are also some musical CDs, toys and souvenirs sold. There is also a part of the ship where they sell books and other items in bargain price. The prices are in units which means 100 units = 100 pesos.

Next to the bookstore is a mural of the story of the Prodigal Son and after that is the International Cafe. Within the cafe, there is also an area for kids to play and do some art activities. Here we are, feeling like kids. :P

Since it was past 12 noon already, we were not able to try their food in the cafe because they don't serve meals. So we ended up our tour in Logos Hope. If I still have a free time before May 28, I would love to go back there and browse again their books.

MV Logos Hope is back!

The largest floating bookstore is back in the Queen City of the South! 

A few years ago, MV Logos Hope visited Cebu and opened its doors to Cebuanos. With over 5,000 book titles, one would definitely enjoy the wide variety of books.

So if you are a book lover or just a curious one, visit the MV Logos Hope now. It is located in Pier 1 and they will be staying here in Cebu from May 5 to May 28.

Divergent Series

"We believe in ordinary acts of bravery in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another."

For the past few weeks, I've been absorbed in reading Veronica Roth's novels-- Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant. 

The first time I heard about this is from a friend who told me that she watched the movie Divergent (imagine, I didn't even know it was already a movie. haha) but was disappointed because it was a little different from the book (of course, this really happens all the time when a book is turned to a movie). So I got curious and watched the movie too. Because I wasn't able to read the book yet, I didn't have any heartache, then later on, I decided to read the book and bang! I was disappointed. -_-

And because I was left hanging what will happen next, I read the next book which is Insurgent. The second book was okay, the ending was better and it will leave the audience curious and because I became curious, I read the next one; Allegiant.

There were a lot of surprises in the third book and when I finished reading the book, I was really SAD. I didn't expect that would be the ending. Nevertheless, Roth's imaginative mind really nailed the story.

I don't want to be a spoiler so better read it for yourself guys. :D

How to Win Friends and Influence People

It's almost a year when my friend gave this book to me entitled How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. She gave it to me during my birthday and over the past year (I'm being truthful here) I haven't finished reading the book yet. (bad meh. >.<) BUT, even if I wasn't able to completely finished the book, I already learned a lot from the author.

There are four parts and each part teaches you something very vital and very helpful when dealing with different kinds of people.

Part 1: Fundamental Techniques in Handling People

* Don't criticize, condemn or complain.

* Give honest and sincere appreciation.

* Arouse in the other person an eager want.

Part 2: Six Ways to Make People Like You

* Become genuinely interested in other people.

* Smile.

* Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.

* Talk in terms of the other person's interests.

* Make the other person feel important -- and do it sincerely.

Part 3: How to Win People to Your Way of Thinking

* The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.

* Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say. "You're wrong."

* If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.

* Begin in a friendly way.

* Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.

* Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.

* Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.

* Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.

* Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.

* Appeal to the nobler motives.

* Dramatize your ideas.

* Throw down a challenge.

Part 4: Be A Leader: How to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment

* Begin with praise and honest appreciation.

* Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly. 

* Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.

* Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.

* Let the other person save face.

* Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be "hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise."

* Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to. 

* Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct. 

*Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest.

Mitch Albom: Book Signing Tour 2014

Calling all Mitch Albom's fans! On February 2014, Mitch Albom will be having his book signing tour here in the Philippines.

Schedule of Book Signing:
February 22 at 2 pm @ the Glorietta Activity Center
February 23 at 2 pm @ the Activity Center of Ayala Center Cebu

Mitch Albom is a world–renowned author and his works have sold out millions of copies worldwide. Some of his books are: Tuesdays with Morrie (which was also turned to a film), The Five People You Meet in Heaven, For One More Day, Have a Little Faith and The Time Keeper.

The First Phone Call from Heaven is Albom's latest book and if you purchase the book, you will be given a signing pass.

Here are the mechanics for the book signing:

1. Every purchase of “The First Phone Call from Heaven” (TFPCFH) by Mitch Albom from National Book Store, Powerbooks, Bestsellers or National Book Store Express shall come with a Mitch Albom flyer. Please note that the flyer is not a guaranteed signing pass.

2. There is no limit as to how many copies of TFPCFH can be purchased by a customer.

3. On the day of the event, only guests with an original Mitch Albom flyer that came from a TFPCFH book bought at National Book Store, Powerbooks, Bestsellers or National Book Store Express, will be allowed to register. First come, first served.

4. The book signing events shall be at the following times and dates:
• February 22, 2014, 2 p.m. / Glorietta Activity Center
• February 23, 2014, 2 p.m. / Ayala Center Cebu
Registration at both events will start at 10 a.m.

5. Upon registration, customer shall get their numbered Signing Pass.

One (1) TFPCFH book = One (1) Mitch Albom book of your choice to be signed.

For example, if you bought three (3) copies of TFPCFH and have three (3) flyers, you may have three (3) books signed (e.g. One (1) Tuesdays with Morrie + One (1) The Five People you Meet in Heaven + One (1) The First Phone Call From Heaven).

6. Mitch Albom will only sign books. T-shirts, DVDs, CDs and other merchandise will not be signed. There shall be no personalization of the books.

7. There is no preset limit as to how many people can have their books signed and every effort will be made to have as many books signed as possible. However, should there be an excessive number of people, National Book Store reserves the right to limit (a) the number of people who can have their books signed or (b) the number of books each person may have signed. First come, first served.

8. Guests may take photos during the signing session. However, we strictly allow only one photo per person.

National Book Store (NBS) is going mad! At least in a dandy way. ;)



NBS, specifically Mango Branch, is having a SALE. And really S-A-L-E, super SALE! haha I just can't get enough of it. (excuse me folks. xD)
